Webinar on ‘civil service as a career option’

Wangkhao Govt. College, Mon in collaboration with Shankar IAS academy, Chennai conducted a webinar on the topic ‘Civil Service as a Career Option’ on 22nd May, 2021.

The webinar started with a welcome note by Mr. H. David Konyak, Convener, Career Guidance Cell, Wangkhao Govt. College, Mon after which the time was handed over to the resource person Mr. Sakthya Krishnan IAS

The resource person pointed out that every year nearly 8 lakhs aspirants submit their application for the civil service but of this, only about 4 lakhs aspirants writes their exam competing for nearly 700 vacancies of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The resource person then explored the various categories of civil services such as IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS, etc. He reiterated that the choice of this category depends on the interest of the aspirants however from these categories; IAS is the most sought after due to its scope in terms of administrative work and execution of developmental activities. Timetable of UPSC, eligibility and nature of preparation for the exams were some of the other important topics discussed by the speaker. The speaker emphasised that to be successful in the civil services, an aspirant must have a thorough preparation of minimum 4 hours daily study for at least two years and recommended the NCERT text book as an important study material. The resource person also added that newspaper offers a wide range of knowledge about contemporary politics, policies and people. He therefore urged the students to cultivate the art of reading newspaper on daily basis. Concluding his speech, the resource person encouraged the students to be disciplined and to utilise time very productively.

Shri. Ramesh Aditya, Head strategist, Shankar IAS Academy, Chennai took over and gave a concluding remark. He encouraged the students to write to the academy with their details and clarify their doubts and issues. He also thanked Wangkhao Govt. College for the collaboration and participation in the webinar.

The webinar ended with a word of acknowledgement and gratitude by Dr. I. Wati Imchen, Principal, Wangkhao Government College, Mon. The principal conveyed his immense gratitude to the Academy for the privilege of such webinar which is very crucial and beneficial especially to the students of Wangkhao Govt. College.
