Webinar on National Education Policy, 2020

The “Research and Seminar Committee” in collaboration with the “Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)”, Wangkhao Government College, Mon, Nagaland conducted a one day webinar on the 19th of September, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. onwards on the topic titled, “New Educational Policy, 2020: Key Proposals and Challenges” which was earlier scheduled for the 18th of September, 2020 but due to technical reasons and connectivity issues it was conducted one day later. The webinar had two sessions with one session on the lecture and the other session was the interactive session.

The webinar started with Dr. I. Wati Imchen, Principal, Wangkhao Government College giving the keynote address. He emphasized on the importance of having webinars and discussions on such important policies in academic world since it has implications on both the teaching fraternities and students.

The lecture on the NEP, 2020 was delivered by the resource person Shri. H. David Konyak, Assistant Professor (Economics), Wangkhao Government College. He stressed on the various key aspects of the NEP, 2020 covering both the “School Education” and “Higher Education” and what could be the possible challenges faced while implementing the policy. Aspects such as the new structure and pedagogy of schooling, introduction of vocational courses, coding, interdisciplinary subjects, new structure of higher education in colleges, multiple entry and exit in higher education, new model of masters’ degree, challenges associated with online and digital education, coding, universal access to education, flexibility in choice of subjects and dangers and disadvantage associated with three language formula amongst many others were some key highlights in the lecture delivered by the resource person.

The other session was left for interaction with the participants wherein amongst many questions raised, some notable and important ones include such as – the three language formula, possibility and threats of commercialization of higher education, the relevance of the NEP, 2020 to local context, etc.
